Burlington, Iowa --- Cody Blick fired a final-round 68 (-4) and moved into the top-three, while San José State finished in seventh place out of 12 teams at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa.
Blick made seven birdies on the day, five of which came on the back-nine where he came in with a 31. After a couple of bogeys on his 16th and 17th holes, Blick poured in a birdie on the 566-yard par-five fourth hole to end his round. His 68 was a tie for the field's lowest final-round score. After shooting 73-71-68-212 (-4) for the tournament, Blick finished in third place, five strokes off the pace of medalist Stewart Jolly from LSU.
As a team, the Spartans shot 299 (+11) in the final round, bringing the 54-hole total to 893 (+29). LSU is this year's team champion with a winning score of 849 (-15).
A 74 (+2) for Landon Polterock on Tuesday matched his lowest score in the tournament. He finished in a tie for 27th place, shooting 74-76-74-224 (+8). Scott Munger finished three strokes behind Polterock in a tie for 38th place. Munger went 74-75-78-227 (+11) in his second-career tournament as a Spartan.
Michael Grenz, in his first event as a Spartan, finished tied for 49th place shooting 73-81-79-233 (+17). Matthew Ashley shot an 80 (+8) in the final round, bringing his 54-hole score to 241 (+25). He ended up in 58th place.
The conclusion of the Golfweek Conference Challenge marks the halfway point of the Spartans' fall series. The team is back in action on October 13-14 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif.
