Santa Cruz, Calif. --- The San José State men's golf team finished in 12th place out of 14 teams at the 69th Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, Calif.
The Spartans were +26 in the final round on Sunday and finished the event shooting 375-373-376-1124 (+74).
Brett Thawley had all three of his rounds counted in the Western, and finished alongside Ashley in 54th place, shooting 73-76-76 (+15).
Marcus Potter also competed as an individual and shot 86-86-78-250 (+40).
"Althought the scores make you think we lost some ground, I think the Spartans made progress," said SJSU head coach John Kennaday. "We saw some great things out of our youngsters, and we are looking forward to the conference championship."
Scottie Scheffler became the first Texas Longhorn to take individual medalist honors at the Western Intercollegiate. Scheffler shot 66-68-67-201 (-9) to win by four strokes. He helped Texas to its fifth win, and led them to a third-round record tying 340 (-10) on Sunday. The Longhorns finished at +2 for a 14-shot victory.
San José State concludes the 2014-15 season on May 1-3 at the Mountain West Championship in Tucson, Ariz.
