Bandon, Ore. - The San Jose State men's golf team has competed in the Bandon Dunes Championship in each of the last four years and with its 29-over par, seventh place finish on Tuesday, earned their third top-10 finish in the event.
Cody Blick shot a second successive one-under par round and moved from a tie for ninth at the beginning of the day to a fourth-place tie at the conclusion of the tournament. He had a pair of birdies and two bogeys on his opening nine holes, making the turn at even par. Blick opened his final nine holes with five straight pars. He then bogeyed his 15th hole of the day, but got the stroke back on the next hole and birdied the one after that to move to one under which was where he finished. His three-round total was 214 (+1). This is Blick's fourth top-five finish in six tournaments this year.
Daniel Semmler recorded a birdie on his third hole of the day, lost the stroke on the next hole and by the turn was three-over par. He pared the first hole on his inward nine and then birdied to get back to two-over. From that point on he carded seven straight pars and signed for a 73 (+2). He finished the tournament tied for 33rd place with a 223 (+10) total.
Starting on the seventh hole, Marcus Potter began his day with five successive pars. After back-to-back bogeys on 12 and 13 and then his first birdie of the round on 14, he made the turn at one-over par. Potter dropped two strokes before he birdied the third hole, his 15th of the day to get back to plus two. He struggled on his next hole and finished with a 76 (+5). Along with Semmler, Potter finished the tournament tied for 33rd place with a 223 (+10) total.
Justin Estrada couldn't get anything going in the final round. He finished the front nine at three-over par. He got a birdie on the 16, his 11th hole of the day, to get back to two over for the round. But, he was four-over on his final seven holes and carded a 77 (+6). Estrada finished in a tie for 39th place with a 54-hole total of 224 (+11).
Landon Polterock had three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey in his first nine holes for an outward one-over par total. His second nine wasn't nearly as exciting. He recorded seven pars and a pair of bogeys for a three-over par total (74). He finished with a 227 (+14) total and tied for 47th place.
Missouri led the team competition from wire-to-wire and earned a two-stroke victory over UC Davis. The Tigers shot an 11-over par 863 for 54 holes.
In the battle for individual medalist, Washington's Jonathan Sanders shot a one-over 72 in the final round and earned a one-stroke victory over UC Davis' Matt Hansen. Sanders three-round total was three-under par 210.
