Tucson, Ariz. --- Cody Blick is in the top-10 after leading the Spartans with a 1-under-par 71 in the opening round at the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) Saturday in Tucson, Ariz.
After opening with an eagle on the par-five 10th hole, Blick made two birdies and three bogies to arrive at -1. He will enter tomorrow's second round three strokes behind the leader, New Mexico State's Luis Medina (-4).
As a team, the Spartans shot 303 (+15) in the first round on the 7,200-yard par 72 Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National. They are in 15th place out of 16 teams with 36 holes remaining in the event.
Like Blick, Scott Munger shot a 35 (-1) on his first nine holes, but ended up even for the round and is tied for 17th place.
New Mexico State has three players inside the top-five, and the Aggies have the 18-hole team lead at -5. Santa Clara is one shot off the lead and UTEP at -1 rounds out the teams which shot under par on Saturday.
