Somis, Calif. - Justin Estrada jumped 18 spots with a two-under par 70 in the final round of Jones Sports Invitational and earned his first top-10 finish of the 2013-14 season. Overall the San José State Men's golf team shot its best round of the tournament, a 13-over par 301, on Tuesday and finished in eighth place.
Teeing off on the 10th hole, Estrada birdied 11, bogeyed 16 and birdied 18 to make the turn at one-under. He got to two-under par on a birdie at the second hole, his 11th, but gave the stroke right back on a bogey at three. His final birdie of the day came on the eighth and he signed for a 70 (-2). He moved from a tie for 28th place to a tie for 10th with a 54-hole total of 223 (+7).
Cody Blick improved nine spots on the leader board with his one-over par 73 on Tuesday. He jumped from a tie for 28th place to a tie for 19th. Also beginning on the 10th hole, Blick had a birdie and a pair of bogeys and was two-over par on his outward nine. He birdied the first hole, his 10th of the day, to get back to even, but then on the next three holes went double bogey, bogey, bogey to drop to four-over. Blick battled back recording birdies on three of his final four holes to finish at one-over par. His three-round total was 226 (+10).
Daniel Semmler carded a seven-over 79 on the 6,985-yards, par 72 Saticoy Country Club course. His lone birdie came on the 17th hole, his eighth of the day. He went out in four-over and came back in three-over, which got him to plus-17 (233) for the tournament and a tie for 36th place.
Marcus Potter finished the tournament in 55th place after an 83 on Tuesday. He was six-over on his first nine and five-over on the back. Potter totaled 240 (+24) for 54 holes.
Landon Polterock carded one birdie on his way to his best round of the tournament, a seven-over par 79. He made the turn at four-over and birdied the first hole, his 10th of the day, to get one back, but finished the back side at three-over. His three-round total of 246 (+30) slotted him in to 62nd place.
In the team competition, San Diego State erased a four-stroke deficit to take earn a one-shot victory over Southern California. The Aztecs finished at 17-over par (881). Southern California's Anthony Paolucci and San Diego State's Riccardo Michelini shared the lead for individual medalist overnight. Paolucci fired a one-over par 71 on Tuesday, including a birdie on the 18th, which was good for a one stroke win over Michelini.
