Senior running back Tyler Ervin and sophomore forward Dorthe Hoppius of the women’s soccer team are the Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month for October, presented by ScholarShare.
Ervin, who was also September’s student-athlete of the month, became the second FBS player with two games this season rushing for more than 250 yards after putting up 263 in the Spartans’ win over New Mexico. Earlier in the month, he scored SJSU’s last two touchdowns in the 33-27 overtime win at UNLV. Those performances, together with his 160 yards against Auburn, helped Ervin finished October second in the country with 1,159 rushing yards on the season and third in rushing yards per game (144.9).
Hoppius scored five goals and poured in three game-winners for the Spartans during the month of October when the team went 6-3. The native of Dorsten, Germany netted the golden goal in overtime to defeat New Mexico, 2-1, on the road, and hit the game-winner versus Nevada which punched SJSU’s ticket to the Mountain West Championship. She was selected First-Team All-Mountain West for her contributions down the stretch of conference play.
