San José State record: 1-1. The Spartans' eight-game winning streak covering two seasons ended in a 34-21 loss to #5/#4-Stanford on September 7.
Minnesota record: 3-0. The Golden Gophers won their third consecutive game with a 29-12 victory over Western Illinois on September 14. Minnesota is 3-0 for the second year in a row.
Play-by-Play Radio Coverage: KLIV (1590 AM, San José) originates San José State football broadcasts. Justin Allegri is the new play-by-play voice. Kevin Richardson offers commentary. The network affiliate is KION (1460 AM/101.1 FM, Salinas). The pregame show begins at 8:30 a.m. (PDT).

San José State-Minnesota series: The series is tied, 1-1. The two teams are playing each other for the first time since September 12, 1992 when the Spartans posted a 39-30 win in the Metrodome. Minnesota's win in the series was a 26-20 victory in the Metrodome on September 14, 1991.
Facing Big Ten opponents: San José State will play its eighth game in school history against a Big Ten Conference opponent when it faces Minnesota. The Golden Gophers will be the Spartans' first three-time opponent from the Big Ten. San José State also played Nebraska twice in Lincoln, Neb., when the Cornhuskers were Big-12 Conference members.
First of seven national TV appearances: San José State is making the first of an unprecedented seven regular-season national television appearances in a season with the Minnesota game. The Spartans are scheduled to appear on ESPN vs. Utah State on September 27, twice on ESPN2 beginning with the Minnesota game, once on a to-be-determined ESPN outlet against Nevada in November and three times on the CBS Sports Network.
14-out-of-17: Despite losing to #5-Stanford on September 7, San José State has wins in 14 of its last 17 games. Dating back to November 2011, the recent percentage of victories is the best for the University since the 1986 and 1987 seasons.
Aiming for 2-1 again: The Minnesota game offers San José State the opportunity to be 2-1 for the second season in a row. The last time the Spartans were 2-1 or better in back-to-back seasons was in 1982 (3-0) and 1983 (2-1).
FBS shutouts in 2013: San José State is one of 12 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams to record a shutout this season. There were seven shutouts in Week 1, four in Week 2 and one in Week 3. San José State, Arizona, Oklahoma and Arizona State are the four schools west of the Mississippi with a shutout. Georgia Tech, Duke, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Central Florida, Rutgers, Marshall and Syracuse have a shutout in 2013.
