Quarterback Theme For The 1st QB Club Meeting

The Ron Caragher Radio Show at 5:00 p.m. starts the night's activities.

Sep 3, 2013

A Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, one of the top local high school quarterbacks of his era, a quarterback with Big-12 Conference experience and a former San Jose State quarterback who hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy emblematic of a Super Bowl victory all are part of the September 4 San Jose State University Quarterback Club dinner meeting.

Yelberton Abraham Tittle, better known as Y.A. Tittle, a seven-time Pro Bowl quarterback who played 17 seasons of professional football for the Baltimore Colts, San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants is the featured speaker. "The Bald Eagle" was one of the most popular 49ers of the 20th century and was the hub of San Francisco's famed "Million Dollar Backfield" of the 1950's with fellow Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees Hugh "The King" McElhenny, Joe "The Jet" Perry and John Henry Johnson.

The festivities start at 5:00 p.m. at the San Jose Elks Lodge located at 444 W. Alma Avenue, approximately a mile from Spartan Stadium. New San Jose State head coach Ron Caragher, a star quarterback himself at nearby Bellarmine Prep, will tape his weekly radio for same night airing on KLIV (1590 AM, San Jose). The hour-long show will be filled with insights on taking on #4-ranked Stanford, Saturday, September 7, at Stanford Stadium.

Following dinner, new San Jose State offensive coordinator Jimmie Dougherty, a quarterback during his college days at the University of Missouri, will be one of three Spartan assistant coaches adding their perspective on the upcoming game with the Cardinal.

Topping off the Quarterback Club's quarterback theme, deputy director of athletics John Poch will share the latest news on the Vermeil-Walsh Athletic Complex named in part for former San Jose State quarterback Dick Vermeil. The legendary Spartan is the only known coach to lead a team to a Rose Bowl championship and a Super Bowl title in a football coaching career.
