San José State record: 1-0. The Spartans opened the season defeating Sacramento State (24-0) for their eighth win in a row covering the end of 2012 and the start of the new season.

2012 Stanford record: 12-2, 8-1 Pac-12. The Cardinal finished the season with eight consecutive victories, the Pac-12 championship and a Rose Bowl win.

Play-by-Play Radio Coverage: KLIV (1590 AM, San José) originates San José State football broadcasts. Justin Allegri has the new play-by-play voice. Kevin Richardson offers commentary. The network affiliate is KION (1460 AM/101.1 FM, Salinas). The KLIV broadcast begins at 7:30 p.m. (PDT).

KSJS (90.5 FM, San José) also will broadcast the Stanford game. Air time is 7:45 p.m. (PDT).

Television: The San José State--Stanford game will be televised by the Pac-12 Network. For the second year in a row, Ted Robinson calls the play-by-play and Glen Parker provides commentary. Drea Avent is the sideline reporter. The Pac-12 Network coverage begins at 8:00 p.m. (PDT).

Ron Caragher Radio Show: The weekly one-hour Ron Caragher Radio Show airs on KLIV (1590 AM, San José), Wednesdays, at 8:00 p.m. The 60-minute show is taped that day at 5:00 p.m. This week's location is the Elks Lodge at 444 W. Alma, San José, CA, 95112.

Weekly Press Conference: Coach Ron Caragher participates in the Spartans' weekly press conference, Mondays, at 1:00 p.m. in the Simpkins Stadium Center. For the Stanford game only, the weekly press conference will be Tuesday, September 3, 1:00 p.m. Call (408) 924-1217 for more details.  

The Spartan Weekly: Beginning Sept., 5, the 30-minute Spartan Weekly television show on San José State Athletics airs on Comcast Hometown Network (Channel 104 on many local Comcast cable systems) each Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at noon. 

San José State-Stanford series: Stanford leads the series, 51-14-1. The Cardinal has victories in the last five meetings between these teams including a 20-17 decision to open 2012. San José State's last win in the series was a 35-34 victory in Spartan Stadium on September 9, 2006.

The Spartans seek their first win in Stanford Stadium in nine tries. San José State's last victory in Stanford Stadium was a 40-27 triumph on September 9, 2000.

Since 1998, San José State's four wins in the series (1998, 1999, 2000 and 2006) came in games scoring 35 or more points against the Cardinal.

The San José State-Stanford series is the third most extensive in San José State's football history. Fresno State (75) and Pacific (68) are the only two teams to play the Spartans more often.

The Bill Walsh Legacy Game: San José State and Stanford are meeting for the sixth time in the 7th Bill Walsh Legacy Game. Walsh (1931-2007) had lasting ties to San José State and Stanford. He was an end on the 1952 and 1953 teams and a graduate assistant to head coach Bob Bronzan on the 1956 Spartans. Walsh was Stanford's head coach twice (1977-78 and 1992-94).  His many San José State honors include Legend status in the San José State Sports Hall of Fame.

Caragher vs. Shaw: The 2013 San José State-Stanford game marks the first time since the October 29, 1994 UCLA-Stanford game that San José State's Ron Caragher and Stanford's David Shaw are on opposite sides of the field. Caragher began his coaching career as a UCLA graduate assistant and Shaw was a wide receiver for Stanford. UCLA edged Stanford, 31-30, at the Rose Bowl.

14-out-of-16: Following its 24-0 win over Sacramento State, San José State now has victories in 14 of its last 16 games. The Spartans concluded 2011 with wins over Navy and at Fresno State. San José State was 11-2 in 2012.

Two teams with an eight-game winning streak: In 66 previous meetings, San José State and Stanford never faced each other with simultaneous winning streaks of eight or more games.

Aiming for nine in a row:  With a win over the Cardinal, San José State can record its first nine-game winning since 1986 and into 1987. Those Spartan teams combined for an 11-game winning streak.

Facing nationally-ranked opponents:  San José State seeks its first victory against a nationally-ranked opponent since a 27-24 victory over #9-TCU on November 4, 2000. Since then, the Spartans are 0-20 against nationally-ranked opponents.

Wins vs. top-10 ranked teams: Since 1951, San José State has three victories against Associated Press top-10 ranked teams.
