In its second season in the Mountain West Conference, San José State University will face eight teams that played in a 2013 bowl and be one of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams to play games on its 2014 schedule in four different time zones.
The Spartans have five home games in Spartan Stadium starting with the opener against the University of North Dakota on August 30. San Jose State has conference games the weekends of September 27 with Nevada, October 4 with UNLV, November 1 with Colorado State and November 15 with Hawaii.
Overall, San Jose State is playing eight FBS teams that finished with winning records including Auburn, Fresno State, Navy and Utah State that won nine or more games in 2013. Last year, the Spartans were 6-6 overall and 5-3 in Mountain West games.
"I'm fired up. It's an exciting schedule for the 2014 season - a very challenging schedule. That's all the more reason to be excited about it," says second-year head coach Ron Caragher. The Spartans have games in four time zones for the third season in a row. "I see trips across the country. And, we'll see cities in the Mountain West Conference we didn't see last year.
"Our team will see this schedule and be excited for the challenge that lies ahead of us. It's all the more reason to have a good spring practice session under our belt and lay a good foundation so that we are strong heading forward for our season opener against the University of North Dakota."
San Jose State's non-conference schedule includes games for the first time at Auburn on September 6 and return visits to Minnesota on September on September 20 and Navy on October 25. The Spartans played at Minnesota in 2013 and Navy in 2012.
Conference road games at Wyoming on October 18, Fresno State on November 8, Utah State on November 22 and San Diego State on November 29 complete the regular season. The Mountain West Championship game is on December 6 at the home field of the highest-ranked team among the Mountain and West Division winners.
Television assignments with conference broadcast partners CBS Sports Network, ESPN, ROOT Sports and the Mountain West Network powered by Campus Insiders will be announced at a future date.
