Football Set To Open Spring Practice

There are 13 returning starters among more than 80 players suiting up for spring practice.

A first-team All-Central league selection for Long Beach City College (Coach Brett Peabody), Nehemiah is headed to San Jose State for the 2018 spring semester. Shelton led his team and tied for 20th in the California Community College system in 2017 with four pass interceptions. He was second on the squad with seven pass breaks and contributed 46 tackles and 3.0 tackles for loss for the 2017 Patriotic Bowl champion Long Beach City College.

The graduate of Serra High in Gardena, Calif. (Coach Scott Altenberg) played cornerback and wide receiver. As a senior, he came up with three pass interceptions and seven pass break-ups. He concluded his high school career playing in the 2017 Lions All-Star Game in El Segundo, Calif.

Presently, Nehemiah is undecided on an academic major, but is interested in a college coaching career. He enjoys watching action movies. His favorite actors are Mark Wahlberg and Liam Neeson. One of his uncles, Jason Wilson, was a running back on the 1990 Big Ten co-champion Iowa football team. Nehemiah is a native of Tracy, Calif.
