Football Set To Open Spring Practice

There are 13 returning starters among more than 80 players suiting up for spring practice.

A 2017 first-team All-Mountain League defensive back for Southwestern College (Coach Edward Carberry), Jalen will enroll at San Jose State for the 2018 spring semester and compete for playing time as a cornerback. Davis ranked 20th in the California community college system with four interceptions and led his team with eight pass break ups. Nelson was a football (Coach Anthony Johnson) and basketball letterwinner at Horizon Christian Academy in San Diego. As a high school senior, he played wide receiver, safety, cornerback and middle linebacker. In 10 out of 15 games of available statistics, Jalen had 46 receptions for 683 yards and 10 touchdowns on offense and 80 tackles, five pass interceptions, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries on defense. He was a first-team All Coastal League honoree and his team's Defensive Player of the Year in 2016. Nelson completed his high school football career playing in the 2017 San Diego County vs. Inland Empire all-star game. Jalen would like to major in psychology. His career interests include high school coaching and mental health counseling. His favorite musical artists are J Cole and Kanye West. Nelson's favorite movies are "The Dark Knight," "The Waterboy," and "Roll Bounce." Jalen is a native of Sasebo, Japan.
