Men's Hoops 3-Game Win Streak Ends Vs. Santa Clara

San Jose, Calif.----- San Jose State University guard James Kinney led all players with 19 points, but Santa Clara University came up with a 75-54 win.

The Broncos (7-2) ended the Spartans' three-game winning streak with a balanced scoring attack and a 12-0 run midway through the first half to take a double-digit that they would not relinquish the rest of the game.

For the second game in a row, San Jose State (5-4) struggled from the field making just 25.0 of its field goal attempts. In the December 8 win over Sacramento State, the Spartans converted 31.3 percent of their field goal tries.

Guard Evan Roquemore led Santa Clara in scoring with 16 points and had an effective floor game with five assists. Kevin Foster, tenth nationally in scoring at 21.3 per game, scored just 11 points, but handed out a game-high six assists.

San Jose State struggled the entire night against Santa Clara's man-to-man defense. The Broncos were able to push the Spartans off their preferred spots on the floor offensively.

And, Spartan forward Chris Cunningham, playing against his former team for the first time, was in early foul trouble. Cunningham finished with 6 points and a season low 4 rebounds ending a five-game streak of double-figure rebound contests.

After Kinney, no other San Jose State player scored in double figures. D.J. Brown managed to score 9 points, but was just 1-of-6 from the field.

"We didn't function very well the first 10 minutes of the game. That put us in a hole. Then we played like we're in a hole and it affected our sharpness and Santa Clara is a confident team that took advantage of that," added the San Jose State coach.

San Jose State does not play again until December 22 when the Spartans take on James Madison in a non-conference game in Las Vegas.
