MBB Picked Ninth, Kinney Receives Preseason Honor

Denver, Colo.-The San Jose State men's basketball team picked ninth in the 2012-13 Western Athletic Conference coaches and media polls released today by the conference office.  Senior guard James Kinney received second-team Preseason All-WAC honors by the coaches.

Kinney was the team's leading scorer last season, averaging 15.8 points per game.  He was named to the WAC All-Newcomer Team and set San Jose State single-season records with 86 three-pointers made and 216 attempted.

The league's top selection was split among the two polls, with New Mexico State and Utah State each garnering five first-place votes in the coaches' poll, while Utah State edged out New Mexico State in the media poll.

San Jose State returns three starters from last year's team - Kinney, D.J. Brown and Stephon Smith.  The Spartans have six new players including Santa Clara transfer Chris Cunningham and guard Xavier Jones.

Tickets for all Spartan home games are now on sale by calling the Athletics Ticket Office at (408) 924-SJTX or by visiting sjsuspartans.com.

San Jose State hosts an exhibition game next Thursday, Nov. 1, against the Academy of Arts beginning at 5 p.m., inside The Event Center.
