First-team all-league choice and co-MVP, Isaiah Nichols, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to compete for the San José State University men's basketball team beginning with the 2016-17 season. Head coach Dave Wojcik made the announcement.

"We are extremely happy to announce the addition of Isaiah Nichols to the Spartan family," Wojcik said. "He's going to come right in and give us depth and versatility at the guard position. He can score, rebound and distribute the ball at a high level."

The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 15.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game last season with the Avon (Conn.) Old Farms men's basketball team of the New England Prep School Athletic Council.

"He's got a high motor, great work ethic and his leadership qualities are something that come naturally. Isaiah was his team's leader on and off the court during high school, and that continued during a highly successful year of prep basketball."

Nichols led the Winged Beavers to an 18-7 overall record and a Founder's League championship. He was a First-Team All-Tri-State League choice and Co-MVP. He also garnered First-Team All-New England Class-A honors.

Nichols graduated from Santa Clara High School in his hometown of Oxnard, Calif., before heading east for prep basketball. He finished senior year averaging 14.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists. Nichols led all players with 19.8 points and 10.9 rebounds during Tri-Valley League play, where Santa Clara finished 8-2.

The proven scorer produced the most points in 25 years at Santa Clara High when he dropped 40 points in a victory over Santa Paula High on January 30, 2015.

Nichols becomes an addition to the backcourt which fueled the Spartans to third in the Mountain West in assists during the 2015-16 season.
