Men's Basketball Adds Height With 6-11 Center

San Jose, Calif.—Matt Pollard, a 6-11 center who is a 2012 graduate of Kashmere High School in Houston, Texas, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play men’s basketball at San Jose State University beginning with the 2013-14 season, as announced by head coach Dave Wojcik.

Pollard, who spent the past year at a prep school in Raleigh, N.C., was named to the 2012 Greater Houston All-District 22-4A second team and averaged close to a double-double his senior year.  He played at the 2012 Chris Saiz Point the Way Foundation Senior Showcase where he had four points and seven rebounds for the North team.

“Matt has tremendous size and a very good work ethic,” said Wojcik.  “He is good with his back to the basket and a good rebounder.  Matt has a bright future ahead of him and will fill a need for us at the post position.”

Pollard joins Brandon Mitchell, a 6-5 forward from Ridgeway HS in Memphis, Isaac Thornton, a 6-3 guard from Sam Houston HS in San Antonio, Jalen James, 6-3 point guard from La Lamiere School in La Porte, Ind., and Rashad Muhammad, a 6-5 shooting guard from Bishop Gorman HS in Las Vegas, as part of Coach Wojcik’s first recruiting class.  The Spartans still have scholarships to grant by the May 15th deadline.

Season ticket deposits are being accepted now through the Spartan Ticket Office at (408) 924-SJTX.  For just $50, you can reserve your ticket to see the 2013-14 Spartans in action in the Mountain West Conference.
