Guard James Kinney and forward Wil Carter were the two award winners at the annual San Jose State University men's basketball awards dinner held at the Sonoma Chicken Coop in Campbell, Calif.
Kinney was named the Spartans' Most Productive Player. The 6-foot-2 senior-to-be led the 2011-12 team in scoring average at 15.8 points a game and shared the top spot in steals with 40. Kinney was the Western Athletic Conference's top free throw shooter at 85.3 percent and his 86 three-point baskets was a San Jose State single-season record.
Carter received the award for Dedication & Determination. The 6-foot-8 senior who is graduating in May was second on the team in scoring at 13.2 a game and tops in rebounding at 8.6 per contest. Carter was fourth in the WAC in rebounding.
A communication studies major from Pocatello, Idaho, he was named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VIII first team student-athlete in February. Near the end of April, Carter will be one of the University's 2,800 students honored for academic excellence as a Dean's List student at the annual Honors Convocation.
