Denver, Colo.----- James Kinney, the leading scorer on the San Jose State University men's basketball team, was one of five named to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) All-Newcomer team in a vote by the eight conference coaches.
Kinney is averaging 16.2 points a game heading into the 2012 WAC Tournament. He ranks in the conference's top five in scoring, three-point field goals made, free throw accuracy and steals.
The 6-foot-2 junior from Champaign Ill. (Centennial HS, Eastern Utah College) set school records this season for most three-point baskets made and three-point baskets attempted and tied a single-game school record with seven three-pointers made in the UTSA win last November.
San Jose State (9-21) opens WAC Tournament play, Thursday, March 8, against regular-season champion Nevada in a 6:00 p.m. quarterfinal match.
