Wil Carter - Academic All-District VIII 1st Team

Wil Carter, a senior forward on the San Jose State University men's basketball team, is one of five NCAA Division I players named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII first team.

Voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the Academic All-District team is the first qualifying stage for Academic All-America honors. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be enrolled at the four-year college or university a minimum of one academic year, possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher and be a participant in at least 50 percent of a team's games.

A co-captain of the 2011-12 San Jose State team, Carter is in his second year with the Spartans after transferring from Salt Lake Community College. The resident of Pocatello, Idaho ranks fourth in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in rebounding with an 8.2 per game average. He is third on the San Jose State team in scoring with an 11.3 average.

Earlier in the season, he became just the third Spartan in history and fourth NCAA Division I player in 2011-12 to have a 20-20 double-double when he recorded career bests of 21 points and 20 rebounds in the January 7, 2012 WAC opener at Hawaii.

The communication studies major is a 2011 WAC All-Academic team member and a San Jose State Scholar-Athlete. He was one of five finalists for the top San Jose State male Scholar-Athlete for the 2010-11 academic year.

Carter is the only one of 42 finalists from the Western Athletic Conference eligible for 2011-12 Capital One Academic All-America honors. In 1973, Don Orndorff became the first San Jose State Academic All-America in mens basketball as a second team honoree.

The Academic All-America teams of NCAA Division I men's basketball student-athletes will be announced on February 23.
