Cunningham Has Double-Double In 56-48 Loss

Seattle, Wash.-Chris Cunningham recorded his seventh double-double of the season, but San Jose State made just 15-of-49 field goal attempts from the field in a 56-48 loss to Seattle U at KeyArena in Seattle.

For the second consecutive game, Cunningham scored in double figures and grabbed double-digit rebounds.  He led the team with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Cunningham made 8-of-10 free throw shots but was just 2-for-6 from the field.

D.J. Brown was the only other Spartan scoring in double figures with 10 points including 5-for-7 from the free throw line.  Louis Garrett added eight points and had a career-best four steals.

LACK OF GOALS

The Spartans (9-12, 3-7) led 22-20 at halftime, but at least three missed fastbreak opportunities and 10 turnovers denied the team a bigger lead.  Both teams combined to shoot just 29 percent from the field in the first half (17-of-58).

Coming out of halftime, San Jose State scored its first five points of the second half at the free throw line.  Through the first eight minutes of the half, the Spartans were just 1-for-5 from the field, a jumper by Aalim Moor with 12:34 left in the game.

San Jose State finished the second half just 7-for-22 from the field.  The bright spot was at the free throw line where the team made 12-of-16 attempts and finished the game 17-of-24.

"I really do not want to say the same thing.  But we keep reliving the same drama.  You cannot win college basketball games shooting 30 percent from the field. ," said Spartan head coach George Nessman.

"The team played and defended hard tonight.  Our offensive problems are really an issue for us.  The guys know it and we are just not making baskets.

"We are in a tough stretch right now.  We won't back off or surrender. We will keep fighting.  At some point, we will make shots."

San Jose State continues on the road this Saturday at Idaho.  Tip is set for 7 p.m., and can be heard on KLIV 1590 AM.
