More Than Moor Needed In 76-54 Loss To LA Tech

San Jose, Calif.-----Aalim Moor scored a career-high 14 points, but that was not enough to stop conference-leading Louisiana Tech from winning its ninth in a row in a 76-54 victory over San Jose State in a Western Athletic Conference men's basketball game.

Louisiana Tech's Raheem Appleby led all players with 17 points including 14 in the second half. Three Bulldogs finished in double-figure scoring as Alex Hamilton added 15 points off the bench and Brandon Gibson scored 13 for Louisiana Tech (17-3, 8-0 WAC).

The loss for the Spartans (9-10, 3-5 WAC) was their fourth in a row.

"In the second half, they played with a lot of confidence and we didn't. It was a good illustration why they are at the top of the league and we're not," said San Jose State head coach George Nessman.

"They're a very confident team and they've won a lot of games. We're in a tough stretch. We've played poorly the last 10 days and we have to snap out of it. We have to snap out of it by playing fundamentally sound basketball and playing the right way. And, that is how you move forward."

The Spartans led just once in the game, 7-5 early in the first half, and trailed 28-23 at halftime. San Jose State never got closer than 39-33 in the final 20 minutes.  Louisiana Tech led by as many as 23 points on two occasions in the final five minutes of the game.

D.J. Brown was the only other Spartan in double-figure scoring with 11.

The Spartans shot 40.0 percent from the field, their best percentage in the last five games. Louisiana Tech was just slightly better at 44.6 percent. The Bulldogs were decidedly better on the boards with a 40-25 advantage and were able to penetrate San Jose State's man-to-man defense either for offense boards or in-close looks at the basket.

San Jose State can end its losing streak on January 26 when it hosts UT-Arlington (9-8, 4-4 WAC) in a 7:00 p.m. home game. UT-Arlington comes into The Event Center following a 74-68 win at Utah State.
