Box Score

San Jose, Calif.----- San Jose State University made it in four wins in a row with an 87-59 win over Pacifica College in a non-conference men’s basketball game Saturday afternoon at The Event Center

The win boosted the Spartans (6-6) to the .500 mark for the first time this season heading into their Mountain West Conference debut on January 1 against Nevada and gave San Jose State its first four-game winning streak since the 2011 season.

Rashad Muhammad, the team’s leading scorer led the Spartans in scoring with 19 points. Forward Jaleel Williams posted his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Reserve center Matt Pollard had season-highs of 10 points and seven rebounds as five San Jose State players finished in double-figure scoring. Chris Cunningham and Devante Wilson each scored 13 in the Spartans’ most one-sided win of the season.

Unlike their previous three wins when San Jose State needed to overcome a double-digit second-half deficit, the Spartans led the entire game. San Jose State broke quickly from the opening tip taking a 16-5 lead in the first seven minutes and led 34-14 with 3:32 remaining in the first half.  The Spartans went into halftime with a 42-26 advantage over the Gladiators. San Jose State led by as many as 29 points four times in the second half.

San Jose State was the third NCAA Division I opponent for the Gladiators this season. Pacifica, a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, previously lost to UC Irvine of the Big West Conference and the University of San Diego of the West Coast Conference.

Pacifica’s Jonathan Earl was the game’s leading scorer with 26 points. The loss for the Gladiators (3-14) was their fifth in a row.
