San Jose, Calif. --- Ryan Welage and Keith Fisher III each scored a game-high 16 points and the San José State men's basketball team ran away with a 90-40 victory over Notre Dame De Namur in an exhibition game.
Welage caught fire in the first half, scoring 13 in the period and scoring from all over the floor. He and the Spartans went on a 30-4 run lasting nearly 12 minutes during the first period.
Settling in with head coach Jean Prioleau's new offense, the Spartans cut down the number of turnovers by nine from the first exhibition to today's second tuneup.
Fisher scored a team-high nine points in the second half. Freshman Noah Baumann hit all three of his shots in the second half, including two from deep, and ended with eight points. Baumann and Jaycee Hillsman led the Spartans with four assists.
The Spartans shot 54.4 percent (31-57) from the floor and made 10-of-19 shots from beyond the arc. The SJSU defense limited NDNU to 23.9 percent (11-46) shooting and forced 24 turnovers on the visitors from Belmont, Calif. SJSU controlled the glass, 41-27, with Welage grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
Spartan big-man Oumar Barry was also in double-figure scoring with 10 points.
Chazz Wade scored nine points to lead the Argonauts.
San José State opens up the regular season this Friday night inside the Event Center with a 7:00 p.m. (PT) tipoff against Antelope Valley.
