San Jose State outfielder Andre Mercurio was honored as one of the elites in the 2013 Alaska Baseball League, taking the field Sunday as a selection for the Alaska Communications/State Farm All-Star Game in Anchorage, Alaska.
Mercurio's .320 batting average in 23 games this season was tops on the South all-star team comprised of players from the Anchorage Bucs, Anchorage Glacier Pilots and his own Peninsula Oilers.
The Serra High School graduate leads the Oilers in batting and is fourth in the ABL.
The All-Star game ended in a 2-2 tie and Mercurio's Oilers are already back in action with four games in the next three days.
Mercurio started 57 games in center fielder for San Jose State in 2013. He led the team in hits with 74 while batting .315.
