Grand Prairie, Texas -- San Jose State and Sacramento State were scoreless after five innings, but a few timely hits in the late innings pushed the Hornets past the Spartans 3-0 at QuikTrip Park.

The loss for the Spartans (17-41) in their third game of the pool-play style WAC Championship Tournament ends the 2013 campaign.

"We just didn't play very well in this tournament," said San Jose State head coach Dave Nakama. "That's just baseball. We had a goal to reach this tournament and we accomplished that. I think it was good for the seniors to get here, and some of our young guys got to have this experience. Those are good things."

D.J. Slaton (4-8) started on the mound for SJSU and threw 6.2 innings giving up six hits and one earned run while striking out four.

Sacramento State (34-25) broke the scoreless tie against Slaton when third baseman Will Soto ripped an RBI-double in the sixth inning that chased in Andrew Ayers from second base. It was the first extra-base hit of the game for the Hornets.

Slaton exited in the seventh after recording two outs.

Soto struck again in the eighth inning with his second double into right-center field. Ayers who singled and Nathan Lukes who doubled to lead off the inning came around to score on Soto's hit.

The San Jose State bats were quiet again on Saturday. All six hits were singles. The Spartans were outscored 27-6 in three games at the WAC Championship.

Zach Morgan (7-2) started and earned the win for Sacramento State. He pitched 8.0 innings of shutout ball allowing six hits while striking out five. Brandon Creel pitched the ninth and earned his second save.

"You always look back and think of things we could have done better this season," Nakama said. "I think we just had a few pieces missing and I am excited to start building up at San Jose State."
