Softball's senior designated hitter Jessie Hufstetler and baseball's senior second baseman Ozzy Braff are the Spartan Foundation student-athletes of the month for April, presented by ScholarShare.
Hufstetler’s hitting statistics were off the charts during the month of April. She batted .458 (22-48) and smashed seven home runs in 14 games played.
The hot streak began in the very first week when she garnered the first of two Mountain West Player of the Week honors. She hit .571 with 12 RBI and eight runs throughout a Spartan sweep of UNLV. National honors followed quickly as USA Softball and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) also tabbed her the collegiate player of the week. The Atascadero, Calif., native ended April with 13 extra-base hits, 19 runs scores and 28 RBI.
Nine of Braff’s 22 hits during April went for extra bases, including two home runs. He scored a club-leading 12 runs and drove in another 10. The senior second baseman ended the month batting .324 while starting all 18 of the Spartans’ contests. His on-base percentage came in at .403 and he swiped three bags.
