Spartans Play Stanford In Back End Of Home-And-Home Series

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Spartans play Stanford of the Pac-12 Conference in the back end of a home-and-home series on Tuesday.  SJSU lost to Stanford in the first match up, 9-3, on April 11 at Municipal Stadium.

San José State is 7-12 against non-conference opponents this season including a 4-3 record against local area teams.  The Spartans sport a 1-1 record against Pacific, 2-0 against Santa Clara, 1-1 against Saint Mary’s and 0-1 against Stanford.  SJSU will play four games against the University of San Francisco from May 12 - 15. 

Stanford’s head coach Mark Marquess in his 41st year at the helm leads the Cardinal squad who are 27-11 (11-7 Pac-12) this season, including an eight-game winning streak coming into tonight’s game.  This will be the last time the Spartans will face Marquess who announced that 2017 would be his last season.

In the first meeting between the two schools this season, SJSU Interim Athletic Director Marie Tuite along with SJSU head coach Jason Hawkins presented Marquess with a team signed Spartan ‘#9’ jersey.

Marquess is colloquially known by his jersey number ‘9’.
