Last week, 80 San José State University student-athletes participated in the annual Spartan Foundation "Thank-a-Thon." The Spartans gathered in the football stadium press box for three evenings and made over 1,100 calls to say "Thank You." They expressed their appreciation to those who donated to the Spartan Foundation last year and reminded boosters that the 2015 Annual Fund Drive begins in May.
"This valuable exercise offers a unique opportunity for our student-athletes to reach out and personally introduce themselves and thank the donor for investing in their lives and futures," says Mike Chisholm, assistant athletics director & assistant to the Spartan Foundation. "Speaking on the phone with folks you're not acquainted with can be a challenge, but it's a skill that will benefit our student-athletes in the future. Plus, our donors love hearing from those they support and cheer for during the year."
The student-athletes also embraced the opportunity to say "Thank You."
"It's a great way to express our gratitude to those who help make our experiences at San José State possible," says Thomas Tucker, a sophomore running back from Long Beach. "I really enjoyed visiting with the donors and letting them know how important their support is to our program and the entire Athletics Department."
The 2015 Spartan Foundation Fund Drive will last the month of May, with a goal of raising $2-million to support Spartan Athletics. If you would like to make a donation, or "Join the "Team Behind the Teams" and become a fund drive volunteer, contact Mike Chisholm at 408-924-1244 or email@example.com.
