#10-Arizona Takes Game Two From Spartans, 15-4

Tucson, Ariz. - San Jose State fell behind early against #10-Arizona and was unable to climb back in the game as they did a night ago, losing by a final of 15-4 at Hi Corbett Field.

The Wildcats crossed home plate 10 times in the first two innings, including a seven-run second. San Jose State's left-handed starter David Wayne Russo fell to 1-1 on the year after allowing six hits and eight earned runs in 1.1 innings.

Arizona's Brandon Dixon and Kevin Newman each collected three RBI and were two of ten Wildcats with a hit in the game. Ryan Koziol and Cody Ramer also knocked in multiple RBI for Arizona.

"It was a battle for us all day after falling behind like that," said Spartan head coach Dave Nakama. "We just need to play better."

The Spartans put up nine hits in the game, with eight coming against Arizona starter James Farris. The right-hander Farris left the game in the eighth after allowing four runs in 7.1 innings to earn the victory.

A three-run fourth inning for the Spartans was highlighted by Ricky Acosta's RBI-triple. Nick Schulz, who scored on the play, extended his hitting streak to six games with a single earlier in the inning.

In the seventh, Willy Reel and Sheldon Daquioag recorded hits in their first official at-bats of the season. Reel hit a single up the middle and touched home on Daquioag's double down the left field line.

Jason Kafka, James Glawe, Ross Slaney and John Oberholtzer combined for 6.2 innings of work out of the San Jose State bullpen. They allowed six earned runs as a group.

The three-game series between the Spartans and Wildcats concludes tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 12 PM. D.J. Slaton (0-0, 1.80) will take the mound for San Jose State facing Stephen Manthei (0-0, 7.71).
