Baseball Picked Seventh In Mountain West

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The San José State University baseball team was picked to finish seventh in the Mountain West in a poll of the conference's seven head coaches, the conference office announced Tuesday morning. 

New Mexico and San Diego State tied atop the poll with three first-place votes and 32 points each. The Lobos and Aztecs squared off in the title game of the 2015 Mountain West Championship, with San Diego State winning and capturing an automatic regional berth.

Last year's regular season champion and top tournament seed, Nevada, received 14 points and was tabbed to finish sixth. Air Force and Fresno State tied for third place with 24 points, and UNLV was slotted fifth with 15 points.

Air Force led the conference with four players selected to the Preseason All-Mountain West Team. Nevada and New Mexico were represented by three players apiece, while Fresno State, Nevada, San Diego State and UNLV each received one selection.

San José State opens the 2016 campaign this weekend when it hosts UC Irvine in a four-game nonconference set. Friday's season opener will get underway at 6:00 p.m. The Spartans and Anteaters will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. before closing out the series at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
