San Jose State's Michael Reiling was one of three collegiate baseball players to receive honors at the 29th Annual Santa Clara County Hot Stove Banquet on January 22 at the San Jose Elks Club.
Reiling was a recipient of the Loyd Christopher Award for his efforts during his fourth season as a Spartan in 2012.
The award is named for the late Loyd Christopher, who spent much of his career as a scout after a long stint as a professional baseball player. A $500.00 scholarship grant is given to the college player nominated by his coaches.
The graduate of Valley Christian High School in San Jose, Calif., joins former Spartan players: Jason Martin, Brian Yocke, Justin Santich-Hughes (twice), Kevin Frandsen and Nick Epidendio as a San Jose State honoree.
Other award-winning Spartans at this year's banquet included Kevin Frandsen as Major League Player of the Year and former San Jose State baseball coach Sam Piraro with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
