RENO, Nev. -- San José State's baseball season came to an end with a 2-1 loss to UNLV in the play-in game of the Mountain West Championship on Wednesday at Peccole Park.

The game took only two hours, 12 minutes to complete but featured a one-hour, 25-minute lightning delay before the eighth inning.

San José State (13-44) struck for a run in the first inning on Brett Bautista's RBI double that plated Andre Mercurio, who had reached on a leadoff single up the middle.

Kalei Contrades made his final start as a Spartan and danced out of trouble in the early going. The senior finished with 6.2 innings pitched and two runs allowed on nine hits.

UNLV (25-29) led off four of the first five innings with hits, but Contrades was able to keep the Rebels off the board, thanks in part to three double plays turned by the Spartans' defense behind him.

The Rebels finally broke through in the sixth with two runs on three hits and a sac fly to reach the decisive 2-1 margin.

All three seniors -- Contrades Mercurio and Myles Richard -- saw action in their final game at San José State.
