ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- San José State's baseball team took advantage of three early Lobo miscues to jump out to a five-run lead, but New Mexico responded to take the second game of the series, 21-7, Saturday afternoon at Lobo Field.

San José State (12-39, 5-21 MW) tied the game with a two-run rally in the second inning and looked to take control with a five-run inning in the third. New Mexico (26-23, 15-11 MW), however, put together rallies of at least three runs in the third inning and fifth through eighth innings to seal the series.

After falling down 2-0 in the first, Jack Veasey got the Spartans on the board with a double to plate David Campbell, who had reached on a throwing error by the Lobo second baseman. The two-bagger was the first of the sophomore's career and marked his third-career RBI. Kyle Morrison followed up with a base hit through the right side to drive in the second run of his career.

Two more Lobo errors and two Spartan hits led to a five-run top of the third for San José State. Chris Williams' two-run single followed by an RBI double by Campbell marked the only hits of the inning, with the other two Spartan runs coming via a bases-loaded walk to Veasey and a run-scoring double play.

From that point, New Mexico cut into the lead with three runs in the third, took the lead with three more in the fifth and extended its lead with six in the sixth, three in the seventh and four in the eighth.

Veasey (2-3, run, two RBIs, double, walk) picked up the first multi-RBI showing of his career to lead the Spartans, while Williams (3-5, run, two RBIs) collected three hits for the first time. Brett Bautista (1-4, run, hit by pitch), David Campbell (1-4, two runs, RBI), Kyle Morrison (1-2, RBI) and Alec de Watteville (1-2) added hits for the Spartans, who fell one shy of recording double-digit hits for a second consecutive game.

San José State and New Mexico will wrap up the series Sunday at 1:00 p.m. MT/12:00 p.m. PT.
