RENO, Nev. – Nevada scored in four consecutive innings – including a pair of four-run frames – and cruised to a 11-2 win over San José State on Saturday night at Peccole Park.

The Spartans (15-32, 6-20 MW) struggled to get anything going against Nevada (26-20, 15-9 MW) hurler Sam Held (W, 2-0). Held needed just 91 pitches to toss his first career complete game. He scattered seven hits and allowed just two runs while striking out three.

Nevada got to Spartan starter Hilario Tovar (L, 2-3) for 10 runs (nine earned) in his 5.0 innings of work. The Wolf Pack scored one in the second and third and four in the third and fourth.

Jonathan Hernandez took over for Tovar in the seventh and managed to calm the waters. The senior lefty worked the next 2.2 innings and faced just one over the minimum until running into trouble and surrendering a run in the eighth. \

San José State’s first run of the night came home in the top of the sixth. Dillan Smith laced a one-out double down the left field line, and two batters later, Joe Stefanki traded places with him on an RBI double down the right field line. Jack Veasey added a booming RBI double off the wall in left center to plate Michael Breen with the second run of the game.

Stefanki (2-3, double, RBI) led the way at the plate. Shane Timmons (1-3, double), Breen (1-4), Brendt Citta (1-3, double), Veasey (1-1, double, RBI) and Smith (1-3, run, double) added hits.

The series wraps up Sunday at 1:00 p.m. from Peccole Park. San José State sends Josh Nashed to the mound, while Nevada counters with Trenton Brooks.
