Stockton, Calif. --- The San José State bats went quiet in a 2-1 loss to Pacific at Klein Family Field on Wednesday night. The Spartans (1-4, 1-2 MW) scattered four hits in the game and had 13 consecutive hitters retired between the third and eighth innings.

"It was just a tough night at the plate," said Spartans' head coach Dave Nakama. "I thought we pitched pretty good, but we couldn't back it up with any timely hits."

Pacific (2-3) also struggled to find hits in the contest. The San José State pitching committee of Michael Wright (0-2), James Glawe, Johnny Melero and Logan Handzlik held the Tigers to just five hits.

Brett Sullivan tied the game up 1-1 in the first with an RBI-single off of SJSU starter Wright. His second RBI-single in the third inning proved to be the game winner for the Tigers.

Kyle Gallegos singled and scored the Spartans' only run of the game in the first inning. He advanced to second on a walk to Sheldon Daquioag and then stole third base before scoring on a wild pitch.

Matt Carroll doubled to start the Spartans' ninth inning, but was left stranded by the next three batters.

James Glawe, in his first appearance of the year, retired all six batters he faced with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings of relief. Freshmen Michael Breen at shortstop, and Jack Veasey as the designated hitter got their first college starts Wednesday night. Sophomore Mike Simonini, who singled in the Spartans' eight, also started for the first time in a Spartan uniform.

San José State begins a three-game series at home with UC Santa Barbara on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
