Tyler La Torre was named a San José State University’s Assistant Baseball Coach in 2017. La Torre comes to San Jose after serving two seasons at San Francisco State. He was the team’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator.

La Torre brings nearly a decade of professional baseball experience to the Spartans. He began his professional career with the San Francisco Giants organization in 2006. He won a league championship with the 2007 Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, short-season Class A team in the Northwest League. In 2009, he won another league championship with the Class A San Jose Giants.

La Torre was the recipient of the 2008 Nettle Rappe “Good Guy” in the community Award. The honor is awarded to the San Jose Giants player who is exemplary on and off the field.

He participated in two major League spring trainings for the World Champion San Francisco Giants in 2011 & 2013.

Presently, La Torre is a catcher for the Italian National Team. The team competed in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, and won the 2012 European Championship.

La Torre received his Bachelors of Arts in communications, and a minor in education from UC Davis in 2006.

Tyler and his wife, Stacey, have a daughter named, Arabella, and reside in Aptos, California.
