Dillan Smith Named Second Team All-Mountain West

Smith led the team in four offensive categories during conference play.

AT SAN JOSÉ STATE: In his second with the Spartans…Started 53 games and held down everyday duties in right field in 2015 after transferring from Palomar College…Has the ability to play second base and did so briefly in 2015…Will again be the everyday right fielder in 2016 and could see time in center as well.

2015: Led the team in games played with 55 and games started with 53 (44 RF, 5 CF, 4 2B)…Hit .250 in 180 at-bats…Collected 45 hits, including three doubles and a club-best three triples…Scored 20 runs and drove in 16…Walked 19 times and was hit by five pitches…Led the team with 12 sacrifice bunts…Tied for second on the team with five steals…Had seven multi-hit games and was one of two players to have a four-hit contest (Brett Bautista)…Reached base safely in 12 consecutive games (2/28-3/22)…Went 4-for-4 with a triple, run scored and a steal at Air Force (4/3)…Hit safely three times, scored two runs and drove in two at New Mexico (5/10).

COMMUNITY COLLEGE: Played two seasons at Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif. …A teammate of fellow Spartan Graham Gomez in 2014…Helped the Comets reach the 2013 CCCAA Super Regional Championship Game and the 2014 CCCAA Southern Regional…As a freshman in 2013, hit .322 with 33 runs scored, 19 RBIs, and one home run in 187 plate appearances…Enjoyed a stellar sophomore campaign in which he hit .381 with 61 hits, 30 runs scored, 18 steals, 17 RBIs and two triples…Finished in the top 10 in the Pacific Coast League (PCL) in 10 offensive categories…His 61 hits were good for second in in the conference…Recorded third-highest PCL totals in batting average (.381), on base percentage (.460) and total bases (69)…Placed fourth in plate appearances (192), at-bats (160), runs scored (30) and stolen bases (18)…Other top-10 finishes came in walks (6th; 17) and hit by pitches (8th; 8)…Named All-Pacific Coast League as a freshman and sophomore…Received first-team All-State and second-team Rawlings/ABCA Pacific Association Division All-American accolades as a sophomore.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Temescal Canyon High School in Lake Elsinore, Calif. …A three-time letterwinner for the Titans…As a junior in 2011, hit .458 with 38 hits, 31 runs scored, 11 RBIs and 10 steals in 11 attempts…Posted a .400 BA with 20 runs scored, 16 steals, 10 RBIs and two triples in his senior campaign…Named All-Sunbelt League as a junior and senior.
