Robert Buchanan was named San Jose State University’s Director of Baseball Operations in 2017. His responsibilities in this position include managing all team travel, coordinating fundraising events, and managing the baseball budget. Buchanan comes from a business and marketing background where he built, motivated, and innovated teams to achieve budgeted objectives.
Buchanan comes to the Spartans after holding 22 years of executive positions for companies in California and Oregon. He has also done consulting work for companies based in California and Alabama.
He served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Qualigen, Inc. There, he streamlined the sales and marketing organization to a cohesive, hard-working, focused and resilient team. He also directed all marketing material development, promotional tactics, and advertising strategies.
Buchanan was the Global Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Synbiotics Corporation from 2000-2003 in Rancho Bernardo, California. In his time there, he developed and implemented the most successful marketing and sales campaign in company history which improved sales from the previous year by 29%; He coached and motivated a team of 17 to achieve a consolidated sales budget while developing systems to improve the utilization of available resources.
Buchanan coached at the high school level as a varsity football defensive backs coach, and head gymnastics coach. Robert received a Bachelors of Science degree in biology from the University of Oregon in 1970.
Robert and his wife, Linda, have a son named Cory, and daughter Angela. He is the grandfather to four of their kids.
