Pair Of Strong Hitters Named Student-Athletes of the Month

Brett Bautista, a freshman outfielder on the San José State University baseball team, and softball infielder Jessica Garcia, a senior, were named the February Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month, presented by ScholarShare.

In February, Bautista led the Spartans with a .345 batting average (10-for-29), ending the month on a five-game hitting streak. The Granite Bay, Calif., native posted a .414 slugging percentage and a .441
on base percentage. In the series-opening game at Nevada, he hit two-RBI single and in the first game against Santa Barbara, he went 3-for-4 with an RBI-single to give the Spartans a 2-1 lead.

Garcia batted .357 in February, posting a .625 slugging percentage,blasting four homers and scoring 10 runs. The Redlands, Calif., native also drove in a Mountain West-best 26 runs. She was the MW Player of the Week for her performance at the Bank of Hawai'i Invitational, when she belted three home runs, including two grand slams, the first time a Spartan hit a pair of grand slams in a season since 2008.
