Outside Competition

General Rule: Per Bylaw 14.7.1, in sports other than basketball, student-athletes may not compete for any non-collegiate, amateur team during the academic year. Participation for a non-collegiate, amateur team would result in the student-athlete forfeiting his/her eligibility for the remainder of the year, as well as the next academic year. However, student-athletes are allowed to practice for the teams below and compete according to the exceptions listed below with the appropriate approval from the Compliance Office.

Prior to practicing or competing in an event while not representing SJSU during or between terms of the regular academic year, student-athletes must obtain written approval from the Compliance Office. Failure to complete the Outside Competition Form prior to participating in an outside event is a violation of NCAA rules.

Prior to participation in summer basketball leagues, basketball student-athletes must complete and sign the Summer League Form. Once the Form has been completed, and the signatures of the student-athlete and head coach have been secured, it should be returned to the Compliance Office for approval.
