Robert Owens is expected to add backcourt firepower to the San Jose State attack.
Robert Owens, a 6-foot-3 guard who received first-team all-state honors playing for City College of San Francisco (CCSF) last season, signed a National Letter-of-Intent and will enroll at San Jose State University this fall. George Nessman, the Spartans’ men’s basketball head coach, made the announcement.
Owens averaged 16.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists for CCSF as the Rams advanced to the 2008 California Community College state championship tournament. The two-time all-conference selection shot 41.5 percent from three-point range and 47.8 percent overall from the field.
“Robert is a proven perimeter scorer at the junior college level who can do similar things for us at San Jose State,” says the San Jose State head coach. “Robert is a multi-skilled player whom we think will be a great addition to our program.”
As a freshman, he was an honorable mention all-conference choice who averaged 10.2 points and 2.6 rebounds.
Owens played his high school basketball at Skyline High in Oakland. He averaged 14.7 points per game as a junior and 18.5 as a senior. Owens was a second-team All-Metro choice of the San Francisco Chronicle his senior season.
