AT SAN JOSE STATE: In his second season at San Jose State...joined the program in the Fall of 2007...changed his jersey number from #20 in 2007-08 to #4 for the 2008-09 season. 2007-08: Played in 32 games and was a starter for the final 24 contests...logged more minutes in conference action (488) than any of his teammates...one of five players to average in double figure scoring (10.1)...started the season with a game-winning basket against Middle Tennessee in the first round of the First Shot Exempt Tournament in Murfeesboro, N.J....double-figure scorer 18 times including a season-high 20 points at Hawai’i (Jan. 14)...had one stretch (Jan. 29 - Feb. 16) during the season in which he score 10 or more points in five consecutive games...recorded his first major college double-double of 12 points and season-high 10 rebounds at Nevada (Feb. 7)...Spartans’ top scorer in WAC Tournament action shooting 72.7 percent from the field and scoring 17 points in a win over Louisiana Tech (Mar. 11) and 16 points against Utah State (Mar. 13)...led the Spartans in steals with 46, tying him for second place on the university’s list for most in a single season...sixth in the WAC in steals for all games played...had a season-high 5 steals vs. New Mexico State...had at least one steal in 17 of the team’s first 18 games...instinctive rebounder who was third on the team in rebounding with his 4.9 average...averaged 8.7 rebounds per game over a four-game span (Jan. 26 - Feb. 7). MARSHALLTOWN COLLEGE: Played two seasons of basketball (Coach Brayar Brayarson)...averaged 17.0 points per game as a sophomore in 2006-07...led his team with a 7.7 per game rebounding and 2.1 steals averages...2007 NJCAA Region 11 second-team selection...was a NJCAA pre-season All-America selection heading into his sophomore year...averaged 14.4 points per game as a freshman.
WEST SIDE HIGH: Lettered in basketball (Coach John Boyd) and cross country at West Side High in Gary, Ind...helped his team to a 2005 Indiana Class 4A regional championship and appearance in the semifinals of the state tournament...was a second-team all-league and second-team all-state pick his senior season...a second-team all-league and honorable mention all-state choice his junior season...helped his cross country team place second at the league championships his junior season.
DaSHAWN: Sociology major...has an interest in the nursing field...inspired by his grandma and an aunt who have worked in the nursing profession...has been playing basketball since he was 5-years-old...says his basketball highlight to date was scoring 36 points against East Chicago High School in a 2004 holiday tournament championship game...enjoys bowling and playing video games...was born in Chicago, Ill., on January 7, 1987.
