San Jose State head coach Dick Tomey: In his second season with the Spartans. Has a 3-8 win-loss record at San Jose State. Overall, Tomey is in his 26th season as a major college head coach and has a record of 161-118-7. Along with Paul “Bear” Bryant (Kentucky and Alabama) and George Welsh (Virginia and Navy), he is one of three men who is the winningest football head coach at multiple schools. He still ranks in top-10 for coaching victories both in WAC and the Pacific-10 Conferences.
Tomey is 4-7-1 as a head coach against Washington. All 12 games took place when he was the head coach at Arizona. He became the first Arizona head coach to lead a Wildcat team to victory in Husky Stadium when UA topped the Huskies, 16-13, in 1988.
Washington head coach Tyrone Willingham: In his second season with the Huskies. Has a 2-9 win-loss record at Washington. Overall, Willingham is in is 12th season as a major college head coach and has a record of 67-60-1. He is 4-3 as a head coach against San Jose State. All seven games took place when he was the head coach at Stanford.

The Huskies’ most recent win over the Spartans was a 21-6 triumph on October 9, 2004. This year’s game marks the second time these teams are opening a season against each other. The first time these teams met, September 20, 1958, was the season opener for both teams.
Going for three in a row: San Jose State enters the 2006 season with a two-game winning streak. The Spartans ended 2005 with home wins over New Mexico State and Idaho. The last time San Jose State won three consecutive football games was in the 2002 season with triumphs at Illinois, at home against UTEP and at SMU.
