JA'RODD WATSON A second-team Southern Conference selection for Grossmont College (Coach Michael Jordan), Ja'Rodd is a defensive tackle prospect for the Spartans. In 2009, Watson was credited with 40 tackles. His 9.5 tackles for loss and 7.0 quarterback sacks were tops by Grossmont defensive linemen and he led the team with three fumble recoveries. With Watson anchoring the defensive line, Grossmont ranked eighth in the state for total defense and 17th in the state for points allowed in 2009. In limited action as a freshman, he was credited with 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 quarterback sacks. Ja'Rodd completed his community college career playing in the 2009 Triumphant Sports Bowl JC All-American game in Chandler, Ariz. The graduate of La Jolla (Calif.) High lettered in football (Coach Dave Ponsford), volleyball and basketball. He played fullback and in the defensive line for the football team. He was a forward for the basketball team and played the middle blocker and outside hitter positions in volleyball. Ja'Rodd plans to major in psychology. He is interested in pursuing a coaching career. Watson enjoys a wide-range of music and lists Sam Cooke and Lil Wayne as two of his favorite artists. He says the 2008 E-40 concert he attended in San Diego is his all-time favorite. One of his brothers, E.J. Watson, was a fullback who lettered at Colorado State from 1993 through 1995 and had a 210-yard rushing game against Fresno State. Ja'Rodd, a San Diego native, was born on April 5, 1990. MacIntyre on Watson: "Ja'Rodd is a young defensive tackle and we are glad he is here for spring practice. We look for big things out of Ja'Rodd holding up the middle for us. He has a bubbly personality and people will enjoy watching his motor when he plays." |
