AKEEM KING A three-sport letterwinner at Nipomo (Calif.) High, Akeem is a wide receiver prospect joining the Spartans in the fall. King lettered two seasons in football (Coach Russ Edwards) and was used as a fullback, wide receiver and tight end on offense and a cornerback and linebacker on defense. He was a very productive pass catcher as a senior averaging 29.0 yards per catch and scored four times out of his seven receptions. As a cornerback in 2009, he was credited with 30 tackles, intercepted two passes and recovered one fumble. King was a second-team Los Padres League pick and a second-team all-county choice as an all-purpose player his senior season. King also lettered in track and field and is a guard on the school's basketball team. He was a sprinter and jumper for the track and field team and holds the school record in the 100-meter dash with a 10.74 clocking. He won the league title and placed seventh in the triple jump at the 2009 C.I.F. Southern Section Division III final. Akeem plans to major in civil engineering. He is a Los Angeles Lakers fan who lists Kobe Bryant as his favorite NBA player. Akeem was born in Visalia, Calif., on August 29, 1992. MacIntyre on King: "Akeem is fast and big. He has a huge upside, because he is very young in the game of football. We're excited about his speed and the athleticism that he will bring to us as a wide receiver." |
