Gained 356 yards rushing, scored three touchdowns and averaged 4.5 yards per carry...Rushed for touchdowns at Stanford (9/20), in the New Mexico State win (10/18) and against Boise State...60-yard touchdown run against Boise State was the longest run of 2008 by a San Jose State player and a Boise State opponent...Had a single-game high of 95 yards on 10 carries in the San Diego State (9/13) victory...Was one of 10 Spartans in 2008 with at least 10 receptions...15 receptions for 65 yards...Season-high four receptions against Fresno State (11/21)...Completed his two passing attempts in 2008 including a 35-yard touchdown play against Fresno State...Was the nation’s top freshman kickoff returner in 2008 with his 26.7 average...16th nationally and second in the WAC...Season-long 59-yard return came at New Mexico State.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Three-sport letter winner at Alhambra High in Martinez, Calif. (Coach Dave Silveira)...Rushed for more than 1,000 yards and scored more than 20 touchdowns in his junior and senior seasons... Rushed for 312 yards and scored three touchdowns against Acalanes High as a junior in 2005...A two-time all-league and San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro selection...The 2006 Contra Costa Times’ East Bay Offensive Player of the Year....Mayor of Martinez, Calif., declared January 18, 2006 as Brandon Rutley Day...Also lettered in basketball and was a sprinter on the track team.
