2008:
Played in 11 games and was a starter in the season finale against Fresno State...Finished fifth on the team with 18 receptions for 152 yards...Caught passes in seven of the 11 games in which he played and was the only player on the Spartans with at least two receptions in each of the last five games...Had 14 of his season total of 18 catches in the last five contests...Season high four receptions and long pass play of 29 yards came at Nevada (11/15)...Second on the team in punt return average with a 7.2 figure.
2007:
Played only in the season opener at Arizona State (8/31)...Had two rushing attempts for minus-2 yards.
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL:
Two-sport athlete who was named the 2007 Monterey Herald’s Male Athlete of the Year...Named the 2006 Co-Most Valuable Player of the Monterey Bay League...Set 17 school football records at Seaside (Calif.) High School (Coach Alfred Avila)...As a senior, Avila accounted for 2,167 all-purpose yards and 25 touchdowns...He averaged 7.9 yards carry and scored six rushing touchdowns and caught 48 passes for 776 yards and 10 more scores... Defensively, he was credited with 28 tackles, five pass break-ups and six pass interceptions...Also returned one kickoff and three punts for touchdowns...As a junior, he caught 56 passes for 672 yards and seven touchdowns... At the end of the 2006 season, he was rated #17 by Scout.com among wide receivers and #73 by Scout.com among defensive backs in California high schools.
HIGH SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD:
A Central Coast Section sprint champion who competed in the 2007 California state high school championships in the 100, 200 and 400 meter relay...Posted a lifetime best of 10.76 in the 100 to finish 14th at the state championships...Won the 200 meters at the Central Coast Section championships with a 21.96 clocking and lowered his personal best to 21.86 in a qualifying heat at the state championships.
