Sean Martin pitched 6.0 innings, gave up four hits and two runs, but didn't figure in the decision of an11-10 loss at UOP.

Stockton, Calif. - Despite getting season highs in hits and run, with 18 and 10 respectively, the San Jose State Spartans lost 11-10 to the Tigers of the University of the Pacific in 13 innings on Tuesday night at the Klein Family Field in Stockton.

The loss, the Spartans third in a row, leaves their overall record at 8-4 while Pacific improves to 3-8.

Leading 10-9 heading to the bottom of the 13th, the Tigers' Allen Riley led off with a solo home run off Spartan Zack Jones who was working his fifth inning of relief. The next batter, Dustin Torchio, singled to left and moved into scoring position on a passed ball.  Two batters later a single to center plated Torchio and gave the Tigers the win.

The Spartans had built a 6-1 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh after scoring in each frame between the third and seventh innings.  The highlights included an RBI single in the third from Andrew Rodriguez and a two-run homer to right off the bat of Caleb Natov in the fourth, his first collegiate home run and his second and third RBI of the season.

In the fifth and seventh innings, San Jose State got RBI singles from Jones and Craig Hertler, respectively, and Jake Valdez earned a bases loaded walk in the sixth to account for San Jose State's runs.

In the Tigers' seventh, they sent 13 men to the plate and scored seven runs against four Spartan pitchers.  UOP led 8-6 after seven complete.

San Jose State came right back in the eighth.  With two outs and a runner on first, Jones hammered a two-run homer to left which tied the game and later in inning Nick Rosetta's single to left put the Spartans back in front 9-8.  It was Rosetta's first collegiate RBI.

The score stayed 9-8 until the bottom of the ninth.  With the bases loaded and one out a sacrifice fly to left plated the tying run and the teams went to extra innings.

The Spartans scored in the top of the 13th to go ahead 10-9 on a Danny Stienstra RBI ground out, but the two Pacific runs in the bottom of the frame were the difference.

Lost in the defeat was superb pitching performance from Spartan starter Sean Martin who went 6.0 innings scattering four hits and two runs.  He allowed three hits in the first two innings and did not surrender another until the first batter in the seventh.

Six starters had multi-hit games for San Jose State, Jones (3-for-8, 3 RBI, 2 R), Natov (2-for-5, 2 RBI, R), Rodriguez (3-for-7, RBI, R), Stienstra (2-for-6, RBI, 2 R), Hertler (2-for-5, RBI, R) and Valdez (2-for-6, R), but the Spartans left 20 runners on base.

Pacific's Peter Miller earned the win, his first of the year, and Jones was tagged with the loss, also his first this year.

The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they host the first game of the Second Annual Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament in San Jose Municipal Stadium.  Wisconsin- Milwaukee is the opponent and the first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
