|Women's Golf Begins Play At NCAA West Regional|
San Jose-After winning the fourth consecutive Western Athletic Conference championship, the San Jose State women's golf team is preparing to play at the NCAA West Regional beginning on Thursday and continuing on Friday and Saturday at the Colorado National Golf Course in Erie, Colo.
San Jose State is making its 19th appearance at a regional after receiving the automatic bid for winning the conference championship. The Spartans are seeded 21st in the regional. The final top-eight teams at the regional advance to the NCAA Championships, May 22-25, in Franklin, Tenn. The top-two individuals, not on an advancing team, also advance to the championships.
San Jose State begins action at the regional Thursday on the first tee at 12:55 p.m. MDT. The Spartans are playing with Illinois and Kennesaw State for the first two days of the regional. On Friday, the team will begin play at 8:25 a.m., off of hole 10. Saturday's start times will be determined at the conclusion of Friday's play.
"We are looking to continue our string of good play from our past three tournaments," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "This experience will be good for our freshmen. We are capable of qualifying individuals for the national championships."
The field consists of 24 teams and three individuals. Teams competing at the West Regional include UCLA, LSU, North Carolina, Colorado, California, Baylor, Pepperdine, UC Davis, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Tulsa, TCU, Iowa State, Stanford, Denver, UNLV, New Mexico, Oregon State, Illinois, Kennesaw State, San Jose State, Missouri, Northern Colorado and Jackson State.
