|Nine All-Time APR Highs For The Spartans|
Indianapolis, Ind.-----With two Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA for superior APR (Academic Progress Rate) scores this year, nine of San Jose State University Athletics' 16 programs matched or reached all-time highs in the nine-year history of the national organization's current academic measurement.
Football (959), men's basketball (935), baseball (982), cross country (984) and golf (985) on the men's side and golf (1,000), soccer (972), swimming and diving (1,000), and volleyball (995) on the women's side matched or had their highest APR multi-year score.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. The 2012 report covers the 2008 through 2011 academic years.
"Our APR progress, improvement and positive results continue. It's a tribute to our student-athletes, coaches, academic advisers and tutors, and the university faculty and administration that we are reporting our best scores in many cases," says Marie Tuite, San Jose State University's interim director of athletics.
On June 14, women's golf and women's swimming received the news that their programs earned a Public Recognition Award for a score in the top 10 percent of all scores in their respective sport. Both programs had a 1,000 score.
